National Portrait Gallery and Ford's Theater

While Jake was suffering through finals this semester, Paige and I went to the National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum and Ford's Theater. We went with Michelle and Gabbi Prince and Emily and Abby Hamilton.

The National Portrait Gallery is connected to the American Art Museum and we spent some time wandering through that building. There are some really cool things there. License plates from the 50 states the spell out the preamble to the constitution:

That day we also went to Ford's Theater where President Lincoln was shot. We saw a museum about the assassination, the coat Lincoln was wearing when he died (the man was huge!), and a really well done presentation about the assassination. I was a little disappointed to find out that the theater was a recreated after being gutted and turned into an office building. But that's alright. The recreation was good and it was still neat to be there.

The babies did alright during the presentation, even though they did make a little noise (mostly happy noise) which earned us some glares from other people. Abby on the other hand decided she wanted to be outside running up and down stairs rather than be in the theater.

This was definitely a cool sight seeing trip. I love living so close to Washington, DC!

She Rolls

Kartchner Visit

Jake's parents and sister Lindsey came out to visit Paige. (Seeing us was a negligible bonus) We love having visitors out here!

While they were here we went down to Mt. Vernon to check out where George Washington lived. The estate was gorgeous and had the most amazing view of the Potomac.

While they were out here Jake blessed Paige in church. Paige looked amazing in her blessing dress that had been made out of my wedding dress (thanks, Aunt Peg!). The dress was originally my grandma's, worn by my mom, and then worn by me at our weddings.

We had an awesome weekend with them!

Spring

It's definitely spring time in DC. The weather is warm and everything is blooming. Paige looks adorable in her little short sleeve outfits.



Paige also looks so cute in her headbands, and usually manages to work them down over her eyes when she's wearing them.


Unfortunately, spring means law school finals so the boys are hard at work studying. This week while the boys were at school the girls got together and dyed Easter eggs.

The EXTREMELY talented Michelle made these eggs. So cute!

Wiggles

We love watching little Paige wiggle. You can also see a start of her smile in these videos.

Baby Paige

Paige is almost 7 weeks old and it feels like the time is flying by. She's growing like crazy and her face has gotten delightfully chubby. She's already outgrown all her newborn clothes and is too big to stretch out in her bassinet.



Her days mostly consist of eating, sleeping, and playing on a blanket on the floor. She's a great sleeper and will usually sleep for 3-4 hours, wake up and eat for 10 minutes, then go back to sleep for another few hours. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen at night. Sometimes she'll be asleep all night and others she'll be asleep all day (and awake wanting to play all night).

Paige likes looking around the room and exploring things with her eyes. She often looks around with an adorable quizzical look, like she's trying to figure out what exactly is happening.



She likes to see the world from the vantage point of Jake's shoulder. I LOVE watching this. She clutches on to his shoulder and lifts her head up a little to look around. It's almost like she's holding on to her dad because she's scared, and then peaking over because she knows he'll keep her safe. It's adorable.

Although they confused her at first, she seems to like taking baths in her little tub. At least she doesn't hate them. I put her in her bathrobe after a bath because it's so adorable (thanks for the robe, Uncle Jeffy!).


Usually when we put her on the floor on a blanket she'll wiggle around a ton. Sometimes she gets tired mid-wiggle and falls asleep.

She's getting pretty good at moving her head around. I love her little grunts while she's trying to move it.




One of my favorite things is her delightful little smile. She's been smiling for a couple weeks now. Her first reactionary smile (we're mostly sure it was a reaction) was to her dad. That makes sense to me, because Jake makes me smile too. I haven't been able to fully capture her smile with the camera yet, but this picture almost got it.
